Since 1986 the Danish Art Workshops have provided unique, professional facilities for artists, designers, craftsmen and restorers.

    About the National Workshops

Purpose; This is what we are here for

The Danish Art Workshops have very large, spacious facilities, professionally equipped, specialised workshops and experienced consultants drawing on professional backgrounds as artists or craftsmen and women.  Together they make up a unique option for practising artists, craftsmen, designers and restorers.  In offering a resident artist programme, the Danish Art Workshops make an important contribution to supporting art and design.

Who uses our facilities and benefits from our  professional advice and guidance?

Young artists working on innovative projects which require professional guidance and well-equipped workshops. Pictorial artists, especially those working with large-scale sculpture and painting. Artist craftsmen and women when weaving or printing in a scale that ordinary looms and printing tables do not normally allow. Designers, for instance furniture designers,  when developing models and prototypes which require a unique combination of  tools and the kind of professional guidance which is available at the Danish Art Workshops.

We draw on more than twenty years of experience with assisting in the creation of even very large scale works of art or design. More than once a residence here will have been crucial in bringing the work into existence, indeed for the work to be conceived in a large format in the first place.

In setting up the Danish Art Workshops with both associated professional consultants and workshops, we consider it our task to maintain and develop crafts and skills which in their turn are crucial to the preservation and development of Danish art and craftsmanship.

    Mission

The Danish Art Workshops' goal is to contribute to the accomplishment of demanding projects in the fields of art, design, craftmanship and restoration - including the opportunities to talented newcomers.

The institution offers residencies to applicants within those fields and develops facilities, expert knowledge and network relations.

    Vision

The Danish Art Workshops have a vision that all partners within the fields of art, design, craftmanship and restoration know the organization as an institution which - through cooperation, expert knowledge and high quality facilities - is able to contribute decisively to the completion of demanding projects. Furthermore, the institution should be known as a place in which new talents within the above-mentioned fields can improve their professional careers.

    Organization

The Danish Art Workshops (established 1986) are an institution under the Danish Ministry of Culture. The workshops are managed by Værkstedsrådet, which is the equivalent of a governing board and has the overriding responsibility for the running of the organization. Applications are assessed and approved by four committees: There are committees for pictorial art, arts and crafts, design and conservation respectively. The chairpersons of the committees are members of Værkstedsrådet. A representative appointed by the Danish Ministry of Culture also sits on Værkstedsrådet.

The daily management of the Danish Art Workshops is in the hands of the director, Frederik Hardvendel, who is happy to assist the users at all times. This also goes for the permanent staff and for our workshop consultants.
